I have a general qestion on Linux that specifically relates to the installation of GNOME on Linux Redhat 6.0.<br>I am upgrading my install of GNOME and would love to know how I can work out what version of each package is before installing the update, as well as where it is installed. I know that this may differ from package to package however is there any "standard" way of working this out? <br><br>I have looked at WHEREIS and this kind of helps but is insufficent. (I also admit I don't fully understand the output)<br><br>Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.<br><br>Shane<br><br>

If you're working on RedHat (I don't know if it works on other flavors of linux), try typing <br><br>[:yellow]rpm -qa</font color=yellow><br><br>That should get you a list of all installed packages and their versions... As MattyJ said, [:yellow]rpm -qa</font color=yellow> will give you the list of all packages installed. [:yellow]rpm -qi packagename</font color=yellow> will give you information on the packagename.
