Sorry but my English is not so good, but i don't understand your question or you mean that the tar.gz format lose the acsii format! That is right! But that is not a problem, if you upload the files with the acsii protocol they will run.

I've been using a free cgi script called "ArchiveIt" to backup my board (posts and all) for quite a while - always been meaning to try and intergrate it into UBB - if yours does the same - then you've saved me the hassle - thanks

also i dont know if this has anything to do with my "downgrade" but mine will not backup sub dir's in a dir (back up non cgi it will not get the forums ect). if that is the way the hack work it would be nice to see that in the final

I installed this hack and it is automated fine however when it downloads the tar file and tries to open its invalid. I have a perfectly good tar extractor. Winzip 8.0

I am at a lose to understand whats wrong?

Mine won't back up dir either, it just shoves all the files into one. I think it would be great if this could be modified to put all the files in the directories.

This would be really nice if it was made to backup the files in ZIP format.. Is it possible?

Download power archiver. Much better for tarball files. Or winrar or winace. One of them.

same problem....i tryed to open it with winrar and winace...winace gives me a file thats 67 bytes...ill try power archiver...

Thanks Mastermind but it was not the file archiver that was the problem. I was putting a trailing / in.

Only bug that I can see is that you need to do a specific directory under www. It will not let me backup my entire www directory only a subdirectory under it.

Could you make it so that you can backup atleast 3 diff dir at one time? and it make just 1 tar file? Or would moving it to a diff server with 3 diff tar files still upload and run right?

but its possible to execlude some dirs or that i can choose 2 dirs to backup (noncgi and cgi)because my noncgi dir is in the server root and its backup all other dirs thats in the root dir too

Some time ago I ported it to 6.0, backed up a board and upgraded it to 6.2.0 beta... But I had a problem with IM Hack (which is already fixed), and I used the GZIP file to restore the old member files.. It went great!

Very simple. I have had to restore things before and it worked out just fine. This obviously assumes a Unix platform with common utilities installed.

Ace of Space - If you get your site back up let me know, hope you don't mind me putting this up, but people wanted it and I had it. The changes I made were minor, but they made it easier for me. I changed it to name the backup files like below(based on what you are backing up).

backup.members.1.3.2002.tar.gz
backup.non-cgi.1.3.2002.tar.gz
backup.cgi.1.3.2002.tar.gz


I have modified it to use radio buttons to select what you want to backup(based on UBB variables).
$vars_config{MembersPath}
$vars_config{NonCGIPath}
$vars_config{CGIPath}

It also creates the backup file with a month.day.year format, instead of day.month.year. I also cleaned up a few of the English translations.
