This is a hack for your templates. I call it simply the "Compact Header". It makes the top of your UBB pages smaller with a modified table and it removes the logo image (for example, if you already have a logo image taken care of in your Header field in the Style Settings).

This one is the "Light" version of the hack. It only changes the three main views of the forum (front page, forum page, and thread page). I am still developing the hack that changes all of the forum views. But I figured I needed to "christen" this new Templates forum or something, so here this is. laugh

Version 1.5 has been released. Light version fixes a little bug in forum_summary.
Unless there is some major bug that pops up, this is probably the final version of this hack.

ROCK!!! Thanks to a recent decision by Infopop, I am now allowed to distribute the actual template files. So at the link below, you can download a complete set of pre-hacked public template files, that come complete with both Compact Headers 1.5, and Compact Footers 1.2. Just unzip, upload, clear cache, and you're done!!! Here's the link for the complete distribution: http://www.se7enet.com/ubbdev/compact_templates.zip
If you like to hack things yourself, you can also download the instructions below.

Previous versions can be downloaded, but support for them is limited.

INSTRUCTIONS (v1.5 - for 6.03+):

Mr. Clean, yes, you can. That is taken care of through a variable called $RegisteredMemberLine or something, which controls both the member count and newest member welcome thing. If you turn it on in the CP, it will be visible.

Jigga, glad you like! laugh Hehe!

Mr Clean, yes, I am trying to finish it off so it works on all public pages. It's going pretty slow though, because I'm having to change a whole bunch of stuff around in public_common.pl and I keep screwing it up. smile

Hopefully sometime soon I'll be able to release the whole thing.

Very Nice!! I used the lite version. I'll get to the rest later, hmm, or wait till the release the next version of UBB with spell check.

Nice work this is exactlly what I wanted.

MrBill, I like what you've done! I like how you've done the forum title, too. laugh I already have found a bug or two that need fixed in an upcoming release - so I was wondering, can I use your forum title idea in the next release of the hack? Credit goes to you for the idea, of course. smile

Sorry it took so long to get back to you Skorp, but I work nights.

All I did was add a table above everything you did.

public_forum_summary.pl

Quote
quote:
And in public_forum_page.pl added this so the forum name would show up.

Quote
quote:
Please feel free to use this. And thank you very much for the compliment.

I do have a couple more ideas that I was going to try to work in if you don’t mind. But it has been a long day, and it’s sleepy time. laugh

Ok, couldn't help myself ahd to stay up a little longer.

This will show the tittle of the topic on the public_topic_page.pl

If you were talking about the double (little bug) 'This topic is comprised of pages: '

I edited it to look like this. http://www.teamd86.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000003

Hey Skorp. I added the $topicviewline back into the publi_forum_page.pl. But no matter what I do I can't get it to center (valign) in the cell. It always leaves a space at the bottom of the cell. I do believe it's in the design of the $topicviewline. Do you happen to know where I can find this so I can take a look and maybe edit its design?

1.2 has been released... check the original topic for details. smile

MrBill, I don't quite remember what $topicnviewline does. I looked in the major Library files and forum templates and can't find it in them. I dunno where else to look. What does it do, exactly, and maybe I can get some clues about where it is from that?

$topicviewline gives the user the chance to view topics from last 10 days, up to view all topics in a forum. It's the drop down list. The format on that has always been a little hard to work with. It always pushes the cell its in to a wider width.

You'll have to be more specific than that, ToTaLFxP.

What exactly is the problem that you're having? I need to know that so I can troubleshoot it. smile Also, what is the URL to your board?

I'm having troubles with the hack. I'm using vesrion 6.02 and it gives me this error message:

======
Error including required files: Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.
======

The error seems to appear after I upload public_common.pl
Any ideas how to fix this?

I've been meaning to post this problem. Yes, there seems to be a conflict with 6.02. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I'm working on it. The fix for now is to just reupload a clean public_common.pl file. You'll want to reupload clean copies of your templates if you've got the hack partially installed, for now, otherwise stuff might look a little funny.

I will post here when I figure out what the problem is.

I've finally found the problem now. Apparently it was a missing "}" in a couple places in the file. But it looks as if 6.03 will be released soon, so I will be updating this mod to v1.3 when UBB 6.03 gets released.

As soon as I get home, I'll send you the current instruction sheet, which *should* fully work with 6.02 now that I fixed the problem - I didn't have time to run it through my test board, tho, so there might be a problem or two left.

Thanks for letting me know about the database link. I'll go fix that or have one of the admins fix it asap. smile

Hey Skorp. I finally have an example of the $topic_view_line. This function allows people to pull up past topics, all the way back to view all topics in a fourm if they choose. I just thought it was an important function of the UBB.

public_forum_page.pl

Find this:
$TBB

$this_forum[16]

Replace with this:

$TBB

$topic_view_line

$this_forum[16]

Example - http://www.teamd86.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=3
UBB 6.01

Hey, how in the world did you get those awesome tables on your page? With all that java-script... I would love to see a documentation on how to accomplish that sort of thing, or if you could help me privately wink

MrBill, thanks for that. I'll include it in the next release (v1.3, when UBB 6.03 comes out).

Sirox, who are you talking to? Me? or MrBill? I'd be glad to help you if you're talking to me about my site, but which tables are you talking about? smile

Mr. Skorpion, I haven't recieved any reply to my e-mail but had you modified any other files or is it only the public_common.pl with the bugs? I wouldn't want to edit them all again...

FusionMafia, I emailed you back... not sure why it didn't go through.

Anyway, there are about nine files you'll have to edit, plus public_common.pl. I had a list, but I can't find it, and I can't remember exactly which ones they are. Any of them that don't reference the $Standard_Title_Table variable are the ones you'll have to edit, because they're the ones that got their own (incorrect) code chunk. They are the ones that start out with more code up at the top. Hope this helps.

Skorpion, I would like to know how to add those navigational tables to the right of my forum, just like you did on yours. I know you use javascript, but documentation would be great.
