XHTML 1.1 is now a Recommendation of W3C -- fully functional and supported. It differs from XHTML 1.0 in several important respects. It is essentially a reformulation of XHTML 1.0 Strict using XHTML Modules -- it uses not only modular body constructs, but header elements (including DTDs) can also be produced as user defined modules. Unlike previous HTML/XHTML implementations, XHTML 1.1 does not support deprecated/redundant elements and attributes -- in other words there are no "intermediate" (to bridge from superseded applications) or "strict" (applying all the rigors of the application) "flavors" of XHTML 1.1 -- it is a full fledged implementation as is. Detailed information can be found on the W3C XHTML 1.1 Recommendation page .....

Sorry for the incorrect (DTD) "flavors" nomenclature in my preceding post.

For HTML 4.0/4.01 they are "loose" "transitional" "strict" and "frameset"

For XHTML 1.0 they are "transitional" "strict" and "frameset"

The following implementations .....

ISO-HTML
XHTML Basic
XHTML 1.1

..... do not have any "flavors"

A good reminder for everyone, indeed. However, only when XML fully comes into its own will be able to harness the power behind it. smile

On a practical level I think the most comfortable and useful place to be right now is in HTML 4.01 transitional using just enough CSS to make page update quick and easy. I wouldn't rewrite any such pages just for the sake of being fashionable.

However, XHTML 1.1 is a mighty powerful implementation!
