I recently installed FreeBSD 4.0x on a windows machine (second HD drive setup). For booting the system Im using Partition Magic's "Boot Magic" => Boot Manager. I'm also looking into splitting the partition on my second drive to add Linux and play with it as well.

Currently, I have just the two OS's set up:

a - Win-9x w/Active perl and Apache 1.3x.
b - FreeBSD w/perl 5.x and Apache 1.3x

I'm rather new to the UNIX world, and I was looking for a standard set up to do basic script installation and testting for things like UBB and associated perl/cgi scripts.

Basically, I want to be able to create, test and evaluate UBB scripts on both Win & UNIX (Tus the reason for installing multiple OS's).

I'd like to get a general feel for what user interface application (port) to install for doing basic script editing, installation, execution, and general UNIX navigation without being logged onto the Inet.

Also, what is the best port to install / emulate a windows enviroment (Until I can get used to the UNIX world.).

The books I have don't really go into the what's, who's and why for's of the different ports. They talk about X11 and XFree86 but as Im new to the UNIX enviroment, Im not sure of the functionality and which port provides the best interface.

Any advice and maybe your general configuration for UNIX operations would be greatly appreciated.
