A quick hack that works for me.
I am updating my index page by pulling data from a forum but didnt want this appearing in the forum list so.
in ubbthreads.php find
// -------------------------------------------
// Now get the list of boards in this category
*** Change this line
WHERE Bo_Cat = $CatNumber
*** To
WHERE Bo_Cat = $CatNumber AND Bo_Keyword <> 'forum1' AND Bo_Keyword <> 'forum2'
replacing forum1 and forum2 with the forums sql keyword.
