I have a general qestion on Linux that specifically relates to the installation of GNOME on Linux Redhat 6.0. I am upgrading my install of GNOME and would love to know how I can work out what version of each package is before installing the update, as well as where it is installed. I know that this may differ from package to package however is there any "standard" way of working this out?
I have looked at WHEREIS and this kind of helps but is insufficent. (I also admit I don't fully understand the output)
Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.
